Terra Mesa
Outside Belen, New Mexico
A family with deep connections to the land asked REGEN to design a new home in New Mexico’s semi-arid climate that builds with the earth, not against it. Terra Mesa is a single-story, 2,600 square foot rammed earth residence on a 5.36 acre site at the edge of a large mesa overlooking the Rio Grande Valley, with walls built from the ground of the region to give the house thermal mass suited to the climate.
Rainwater is harvested and treated as the valuable resource it is, and water is treated, recycled, and reused on the property. The low-slung plan opens its living spaces to the valley while respecting the land’s cultural heritage and the family’s identity and lifestyle.
